Jail Museum One Year Re-Opening Anniversary

In June of 2018, the Half Moon Bay History Association opened a small museum in the old city jail. Since then, visitors have enjoyed the amazing artifacts and interesting educational materials exhibited at this historic site. Special events are being planned so please watch for more information!

Ohlone-Portola Heritage Trail

October 24 - November 18

The San Mateo Parks Department is collaborating with county, state and federal agencies and tribal representatives, to develop a trail system that will recognize 10,000 years of the Ohlone peoples in San Mateo County, follow the footsteps of the Portolá expedition into Alta California, and document the discovery of the San Francisco Bay by the Spanish. The Half Moon Bay History Association is participating in developing local events, so please return for more information!

Jail 100th Anniversary Celebration

November 23

Built in 1919 on a lot purchased from John Higgins, the Half Moon Bay Jail contained two cells and operated as a jail until 1967. Festivities will highlight  its long and colorful history. Community events are being planned so please stay tuned for more information!
